For those few who are willing to consider the actual reason behind the latest schoolhouse mass murder in Parkland, Florida, even if you are already dug in on whichever side of the trench warfare regarding gun bans you find yourself, I have a couple links that state the reality far better than I could.
The first link is titled "Hollow Soul Bullets" by Pastor Doug Wilson. You might note that Wilson's blog "Blog and Mablog" is one that I peruse almost daily, for not the least of which reason is that he is a true wordsmith.
The second link, to a piece called "Statist Prayers for Parkland USA" written by Toby Sumpter, takes a slightly different road to the same conclusion, but is equally edifying (note that one of the links in Doug's post is to this second article).
If I thought I could improve on, or add to, these fine articles I would try, but they seem to have really nailed the core issues. I will just add this thought: Banning guns to stop murders is like putting a band aid on the chest of someone with heart disease. It does nothing to fix the sickness below the surface, and in fact can only serve to exacerbate the problem by pretending it is a cure when it is only a feel-better placebo. Come to think of it, in that respect it is also like false religions which teach you to perform rituals or do good things to make up for the bad you have done, when you really need the heart transplant that only Jesus Christ can provide!

You are certainly on to the Truth but there is more. Advocates for grabbing guns want to put more power and faith into the hands of government. The same government that refused to prosecute the evildoer when he crossed their paths previously. The same government that demanded we leave policemen out of the picture when "teens" misbehave (like holding a gun to another's head). The same government that saw the evildoer on numerous occasions (35? 43?) and refused to intervene. The same government that could not keep guns out of the hands of a known psychopath. The same government that waited outside while the evildoer killed innocent people. The same government that denied access to weapons to the flock of innocents while that government waited outside for the shooting to stop.
This is the same story as in Connecticut, in Colorado & in Virginia.
We don't need gun control, we need government control.
When they aired that TV movie about the school in Colorado I had to stop watching, as the gunmen walked down the rows of desks with kids huddled like bunnies under those desks, so furious I could hardly breathe. When I think of that very brave teacher in Connecticut that confronted that evildoer there with nothing but her fingernails I am again driven to rage. And now, again, in Florida. In each of these cases, why could not one person have had a gun to stop the evildoer.
God gave us the ability to see evil, and to act. Why can we not act?
I am sorry to rant. And now we see that the same government that cannot stop a known psycho also cannot oversee the building of a bridge. By all means...put your faith in more government.
